Square Christmas Card

Since I’m busy creating Christmas cards, I’ll try and keep posting some of them as and when I get the time. I recently bought an A5 boofle pack patterned paper, and I’m making the most of it 🙂

For my first card, I quilled a snowflake on red handmade paper, and applied silver glitter to it.  The oval shape was cut out using an old stencil that I had. I stuck this to my card using 3D tape, to give it a bit of ‘lift’. The pp is again from the boofle stack. A red bow completed my card. (green card stock, red hand made paper, white quilling strips, silver glitter, craft glue – itsybitsy.in; pp – a1craftsupply.blogspot.in; double sided tape, 3D tape, red bow – local craft store)

Square Christmas Card – 2

For my second square christmas card, I used a free digital snowflake stamp from birdscards.com (I hand-cut it since I don’t own a silhouette or cameo machine). I lined the edges of the pp with red and white polka dot fabric tape. A little pearl in the centre of the snowflake and voila! my card is completed! (card stock & pearl – itsybitsy.in, pp & fabric tape- a1craftsupply.blogspot.in, double sided tape – local craft store).

Christmas must be around the corner!

Yes, I am on a Christmas card making spree, and I am thoroughly enjoying myself. I have recently resurrected my hobby of making cards, so I’m also enjoying learning all the aspects of the ‘trade’. My latest card is below:

Holly

The printed paper is from the A5 boofle collection. The doily, quilling strips, card and craft glue is from itsybitsy. The satin ribbon is from a local store. It took me less than an hour to make this, but I like how it has turned out. Happy Holidays everyone! I am entering this for the following challenges:

Tags Completed!

Yay! I finally completed my 50 Christmas gift tags. I so enjoyed making them! I know exactly who all will be receiving these tags on their gifts, and I so hope they all like them. When I stack them together they don’t look like all that many, but I hope we don’t run short.

Poker-themed card for a friend’s 48th Birthday

A friend of mine turned 48 yesterday and she is an excellent poker player. I wanted to make a poker-themed card for her, and this is what turned out.

For anyone not familiar with poker, each player gets dealt two cards. Two aces are the best possible ‘hand’ that can be dealt to you and they are called ‘the bullets’. An ace and a king dealt is called the ‘big-slick’ hand. Similarly, if you are dealt a 4 and an 8, (48th birthday) it is known as the ‘big-brother hand’. The winner of every round is decided by a combination of 5 cards: the two cards that you are dealt (your hand), and three of the five cards that the dealer lays out on the table. The best possible result in a round is to have an ace, king, queen, jack and ten, all of the same suite. This is known as a ‘royal flush’.

I used these two bits of information to create her card, and also wrapped her gift accordingly. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures before handing it to her, and could only take some after the party had started. The effect of this can be seen, both in the slightly ‘damaged’ card and the shaky pictures 🙂

The card and gift wrapper are both quite simple, but since there are such few ‘casino’ themed card designs, I wanted to post this.

A set of 5 Christmas tags

My very first order! Yes, it’s from my mom so technically it’s not really an ‘order’, but she has asked me to make 50 christmas gift tags. I have started making them, and here are my first 5!

Except for the brown paper used in the snowman’s broom and angel’s hair, all other products are from itsy bitsy. The red card stock is A4 handmade paper and the green and white card stocks are from the DCWV Mediterranean stack. I have used Light Red, White, Green, Cream (santa’s face) and Black (eyes and buttons) 3mm quilling strips. Golden glitter glue is used to add some bling (also from itsy bitsy). The cards measure approx 7.5cmx 5cm.  I must mention here that the angel is from Pritesh’s tutorial  (I just loved it so much that I wanted to make it the first chance I got), and the photo editing has been done using Sunhera’s tutorial. I hope you like it as much as I’ve enjoyed making these!

Congratulations Card

A close friend of mine recently got an extremely good job offer that he was really looking forward to, and I wanted to make a card to congratulate him. Being a guy, designing a card for him without bows, flowers, etc would have been a difficult job. He is a crazy cricket fan, and so I decided to make that the theme of my card.

I used green card stock to signify a cricket ground and bordered the edges of the card with a ‘grassy’ shape. I used a simple strip of paper to denote the cricket pitch. I used sticker embellishments to create the card. I typed out and printed the digital sentiment, and cut it into a star shape. The green card stock, sticker embilishments and glue were from itsy bitsy, (http://itsybitsy.in), and the yellow paper was purchased from my local craft store.

Templates

I find that one of the easiest ways to make your craft work look better is to concentrate on the neatness of your work. If symmetry, dimensions, angles, etc, are achieved correctly, it instantly gives your work a huge uplift. These are some sites that help you achieve this. Please note that I am not endorsing these sites in any way. They are simply sites that I have found useful.  If you use or vouch by any site that fits any of the categories below, please leave a comment with the site link. Thanks!

Welcome!

Creating little art and craft items has always been a hobby of mine. Over the years I’ve dabbled in different things, but paper crafts have always been a favourite. I’m an engineer by profession, so my work hours are filled with facts, figures, logic and protocols. However, I have always secretly dreamt of owning and running a “The shop-around-the-corner” kind of book/craft/gift store with a little cafe. My current home overlooks a beautiful river, and of late I find myself staring out, wondering if there is in-fact, a possibility of turning this dream into a reality. As a step towards that, I wanted to create a site to catalogue some of my own creations. Hence, dreamsbytheriver was born.  Perhaps one day you might pass by a cute looking shop by this very name. As they say, it’s the possibility of a dream coming true that makes life interesting!
